I would like to state for the record that I know that Adolf Hitler was a historical monster and I don’t agree with or condone any actions that resulted in loss of human life.
Donald Trump is a demagogue who has hijacked a major US political party and is currently piggybacking on an undercurrent of racism and fear that has been cultivated by that political party for decades. I’ve seen him on many occasions compared to Hitler.
I have always disagreed with this comparison. While I agree that every demagogue draws their power from similar veins of mistrust and hatred there are far more dissimilarities than similarities between these two figures.
The Khan family has pointed out what I consider to be the most prominent difference. Adolf Hitler was a decorated veteran. Hitler fought for the German Empire and was blinded by mustard gas in the trenches at Flanders. When he was elected he had the support of the military. Donald Trump dodged the draft. His support from the US military has already been questioned.
I’d also like to point out the Adolf Hitler was not an imbecile. He was focused and driven, his message was singular, and his speeches inspired millions to rally to his cause and to war. Donald Trump has on many occasion changed his opinions and has been unable to support his rhetoric.
Adolf Hitler was also, after a brief career in the military, a career politician. After fighting the allies he fought for the socialists and built the nazi party from nothing. Trump on the other hand was a billionaire playboy who until recently supported both major parties when he decided to run for president through the party that he considered to have the easiest constituents to manipulate.
Hitler was so passionate for his cause he was thrown in prison for attempting to overthrow the government. Can you imagine the Donald being that passionate about anything?
The doom of a nation can be averted only by a storm of flowing passion, but only those who are passionate themselves can arouse passion in others. – Adolf Hitler
Even though Hitler was an awful person and Trump is an awful person we will all come to realize Donald Trump is no Adolf Hitler. Despite what Trump would like us to believe greatness is achieved through deed, not word.
